| Bemerkungen (extern): | Die Figur des John Bull, der nationalen Personifikation des Königreichs Großbritannien, wurde 1712 von John Arbuthnot geschaffen. Das Bild der stockkonservativen und wohlmeinenden John-Bull-Karikatur, gekleidet wie ein englischer Landadliger, zuweilen ausdrücklich kontrastiert zu dem üblicherweise dürren Sansculotten „Jacobin“ der Französischen Revolution, wurde seit etwa 1790 von den Zeichnern Gillray, Rowlandson und Cruikshank weiterentwickelt. |
